America 250

On July 4, America celebrates 250 years. We appreciate that the collective success over that time and the strengths about which we'd all agree, would not have been possible without the dedication of teachers and educators who have helped the next generation stand on their shoulders.

Join us as we celebrate 250 years of learning that shaped America.

Education Has Shaped America for 250 Years

Savvas honors how education—formal and informal—has helped build, strengthen, and unify the United States over the past 250 years. From early colonial schools to modern learning innovations, education has shaped our nation, our workforce, and our future.

It forms the foundation upon which every profession, every trade, and countless achievements have been made possible in our great democracy.

At Savvas Learning Company, we’re proud to celebrate the teachers and educators who carry this legacy forward every day and continue to inspire the next generation of learners.

We Asked Educators About America's 250 and They Nailed It!

  • Why is it important to connect America's past with the present and future?

If we do not study and learn from our past, then we are most likely to repeat it. Perspective always helps others see things differently. - William F., Georgia

So we can connect generations of people from different backgrounds and become a more informed society.  - Jesse T., Maryland

So that students see the transformation that has taken place and that they can see how far education has come and to not take their education for granted.  - Landa J., California

It builds civil understanding. It encourages critical thinking. It helps the students see themselves in a story. It strengthens democratic values. It inspires vision for the future.  - Jessica S., New Jersey

Connecting America’s past with the present and future matters because it helps students understand that history is not a closed book. It is an ongoing story they are part of, shaped by choices made long before them and choices they will make next.  - Angelica F., Georgia

It’s important to connect America’s past with the present and future because our history helps us understand who we are and how we got here. When we learn about the people and events that shaped our country, we can make better choices today. Knowing our past helps us protect our freedoms, appreciate our differences, and keep improving so the future is even brighter.  - Wendy B., Illinois

To have respect and honor for why we have the life that we have today.  - Brian C., California

We had to work together to become an independent country. Perhaps this can be an important reminder that Americans should support each other, despite our differences. - Melissa S., New Jersey

It is important to show that growth and change are important in today's evolving culture, economy, and global world. - Stephanie P.,  New Mexico
